Norman (Ike) W. Shaffer

Norman (Ike) W. Shaffer, 93, of Guys Mills, passed away peacefully March 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 31, 1930, in Guys Mills, a son of Clarence N. (Pete) and Viola Vere Reed Shaffer. He married Frieda Hirschberger of Petzenhausen, Germany on November 2, 1958.

Norm joined the Coast Guard at the age of 17 and traveled the United States and around the world for the next 23 years until his retirement. He had many great stories and many good friends from his travels. Following retirement, he moved back to Guys Mills, Black Ash, where he lived the rest of his life. He subsequently worked at Joy Manufacturing and did carpentry work for Leo Bly.

Survivors, in addition to his loving and devoted wife Frieda of 65 years, include children, Yvonne Shaffer of Meadville, Kurt Shaffer (Lu Ann) of Cochranton, Linda Zimmer (Dave) of Erie, Kent Shaffer of Erie, Lisa Sacchi of Guys Mills, Lori Lang of Meadville, and Ebony Benge of Meadville; former son-in-law, Mass Sacchi of Erie; sister, Joyce Thomas (Don) of Greenville; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a niece; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Shaffer; and a son-in-law, James D. Lang.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 3 from 5-7 p.m. at ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE with military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.
