Clara G. Bowen

Clara G. Bowen, 82, formerly of Meadville, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Anne’s Retirement Center in Lancaster.

She was born July 12, 1941, in Sugarcreek Township, Venango County, a daughter of Lambert D. and Helen G. Rossman Austin and beloved sister of Robert and Barbara Austin.

Clara was a 1959 graduate of Franklin High School and attended Clarion University.  She married Gerald L. Bowen October 26, 1959 and they lived in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas where Jerry was stationed in the Navy.  They moved back to Franklin in the late 1960s where she worked for Joy Manufacturing Company from 1968 to 1976.  She and Jerry subsequently owned and operated several restaurants in the Clarion and Erie areas from 1977 until retirement in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Timothy E. Bowen of Mountville; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jerry who passed in 2017; and a son, David L. Bowen.

Private services will be held with interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
