Lester Wagler

Lester Wagler, 87 of Millcreek Twp, Sandy Lake, left this earth peacefully surrounded by his family and sang his way into heaven on February 11, 2021 at Meadville Medical Center. Lester was born in Loogootee, IN on April 8, 1933 to the late Simon and Mary (Stoll) Wagler. Lester worked in his early years at Ibbs Oldsmobile in Stoneboro. He also worked for many years at Lakeview School District in maintenance, at the former Peaceful Rest Home in Cochranton, and owned and operated Wagler Transportation and drove school bus for Lakeview for many years. He was also very proud of his 1-W service in Detroit, MI. Lester married his beloved wife, Gertrude E. (Mast) Wagler on June 26, 1955. Lester and Gertrude shared nearly 60 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2015. Lester attended the Shalom Mennonite Church in Cochranton and was very strong in his faith. He loved driving school bus and always enjoyed taking the girls basketball team to games. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on Sunday Evenings. He was affectionately called “Bus Dawdy” (Bus Grandpa) by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lester is survived by his children; Larry Wagler and wife Betty of Sandy Lake, Cheryl Byler and fiancé William Devereaux of Sandy Lake, Charlene K. Schlabach and husband Nathan of Sarasota, FL, and Faith Riddering and husband Aaron of Myrtle Beach, SC, grandchildren; Todd Wagler and wife Ashley, Rodney Wagler and wife Jamie, Matthew Wagler and wife Lauren, Devon and Kanisha Byler, Josh Schlabach and wife Rachel, Harmony, Heather, Tyler, and Hannah Schlabach, Kaleb, Keziah, Annah Lucia, and Isabella Riddering, great grandchildren; Leah, Addison, Lucas, Ellah, Isaac, Evan, Mia, and Kimber Wagler, and Ryan and Lilyana Grace Schlabach, siblings Sylvia Yoder and her late husband Aaron, Clyde Wagler (deceased) and wife Miriam, Dorothy Miller and late husband Mark, Victor Wagler and wife Ann, Alma Miller and husband Jim, Daniel Wagler (deceased) and wife Edna, Owen Wagler and wife Judy, Lois Sommers and husband Mervin, Rose Stoll and husband Abe, Duane Wagler and wife Kathy, Simon Wagler Jr. and wife Treva, and Ruth Kaufman and husband Rick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Lester was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Stephen Thomas. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Stoneboro & Sandy Lake. Visitation will take place from 3 pm – 6 pm on Sunday, February 14, at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church, 3472 County Line Road Cochranton. Additional visitation will be from 10-11 on Monday, February 15, at the church with a service to follow at 11 am.
