James “Jim” S. Kachik, 63 of Cooperstown, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 3:00 am. He passed away in the comfort of his home following a brief battle with cancer. Jim was born in Franklin on May 7, 1955, a son of the late Albert and Leona Kachik.
On September 20, 1975 he married his high school sweetheart, the former Melody Gravatt, she survives at home.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his two daughters, Felicia Marsteller and husband Dan of Franklin; and Shannon Byler and husband Harvey of Harrisville, five grandchildren; Hunter and Luke Marsteller, and Amos James, Alexa, and Analea Byler. Sisters Barbara Saeli and husband Sam of Franklin, Julie Richards of Meadville, Mary Halsnik and husband Gary of Clarence, PA, and Susan Cherry and husband Jim of Franklin, brothers Albert Kachik and wife Diane of Franklin, Thomas Kachik and wife Terry of Rockland, John Kachik of Franklin, and Stephen Kachik of Kennerdell.
In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by his infant brother Daniel Kachik and brother Andrew Kachik.
Jim was a long time employee at Joy Global as a drill press operator until retiring in 2016. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, and sitting by the campfire at night. He also played horseshoes for years and was the Pennsylvania State Champion in 1997 and 2000. Jim loved sports especially watching basketball and football, GO STEELERS! He also played an occasional round of golf. In the evenings he spent his time listening to music and playing pool with his wife. Summertime you could find him mowing on his Farmall antique tractor, playing with his grandchildren in the pool, or listening to his 8-tracks while tinkering in the garage.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Homes, Stoneboro & Sandy Lake.
A memorial service for Jim will be announced at a later date.
Memorials in Jim’s name may be made to the Salvation Army or Visiting Nurses Hospice.
