Dorothy M. Christy

Dorothy M. Christy, 91 of Sandy Lake, passed away on November 4, 2019, at UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital. Dorothy was born in Jackson Center on June 7, 1928 to the late Lewis and Della (Moon) Armstrong. She was a graduate of Mercer High School and went on to complete business school. She was married to her beloved husband Garth Christy, together they owned and operated Christy Sanitation, he preceded her in death. Dorothy was a member of Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church and was involved in many aspects of the church, she belonged to women’s bible study groups, Blankets for Blessing, and Phase 10 card club. She enjoyed volunteering at church and teaching Sunday school in her earlier years. She enjoyed mission trips to Jamaica and Haiti, helping with Vacation Bible School while there. She supported many other missions financially and in prayer as well. She enjoyed crocheting, making blankets, and sewing. She loved going to Lakeview Boys’ Basketball games and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan, attending many games over the years. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Duane Christy and wife Debra of Jackson Center and Steve Christy of Sandy Lake, grandchildren Mike Stewart, LeeAnn Jones, Keith Christy, Doug Christy, A.J. Christy, who served as her care taker for the past few years, Sherri Baer, and Derrek Christy, twelve great-grandchildren, and many special friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Donna Stewart and son-in-law Joseph Stewart. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home of STONEBORO, 99 Franklin Street, where family and friends are welcome from 11 am – 1 pm on Friday, November 8. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home following visitation on Friday at 1 pm with the Pastor Adam Simcik, pastor of Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church, officiating.
