Dear Sandy and family i met Charlie under the worst circumstances. We were at the Dover fair in ohio in a race together. it was before the quick hitch harnesses were invented. I was sitting 4th and he was behind me 5th middle of the turn past the quarter pole. the horse in front of me lost the sulky as it wasnt tied in properly. my horse dove around it unseating me and a chain reaction occurred. Charlie was thrown also. He was run over by the horses behind him. iwas drug abour 15 yards and then got up and turned around and saw Charlie lying there unconcious with horseshoe prints on his face. I was the first there to get to him. we sat on the horse til they passed the 2nd time, and he was taken away in an ambulance. i believe his mother told me that he had amnesia for 3 days! after that we became fast friends. we were both so grateful that the outcome wasnt worse. I belive the horse was Contessa Volente, not totally sure. Charlie was a very sweet man, he will surely be missed. condolences to all the family and friends. RIP Ed Thomas, and Ohio friend

Dear Sandy and family

I’ve known Charlie since my days at Thiel college 74-78. We became dear friends the last 50 years. We both had kidney problems , I was lucky that my sister was a perfect match. I was able to have a transplant. It was always nice to see Charlie when he would come and race at the meadows , he would come to my barn. If time allowed us , we would always have lunch. He came to our house and my parents were always fond of him. He will be sadly missed

Charlie and I had a nice visit not too long ago at the Meadows. He was kind enough to give me a lift up over the paddock hill. You have my deepest condolences.

My most sincere condolences to Chuck's wife and family. I only met him a few years ago but he was one of my greatest blessings. Such a kind wonderful and selfless man and a greatly talented horseman. I will never forget my dear friend.
