William Engstrom Obituary

William H “Bill” Engstrom, 88 of Stoneboro passed away on October 28, 2019 at Avalon Springs, Mercer, PA after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Bill was born in Stoneboro, PA on October 24, 1931 to the late Elmer G. and Lyda L. (Lewis) Engstrom. He was a 1949 graduate of Stoneboro High School and went on to serve his country in the US Army 34th Infantry, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Sharon Westinghouse for 22 years, Foster Grading for 10 years, and Adesa/Manheim Auto Auction for 10 years, retiring in 2008. Bill was a member of the Stoneboro United Methodist Church for over 50 years where he served as a trustee for many years, and tended to the church grounds. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and lawn work. He was a devoted Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, as well as a Penn State fan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Bill married his beloved wife, Edith M. (Clark) Engstrom on October 6, 1956 and she survives at home. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by His daughter, Brenda Rose and husband David of Clermont, Florida, sons Mark Engstrom of Greenville and Gary Engstrom and wife Juli of Fredonia. Also grandchildren Nicole Bucher (Nick), Brent Rose (Samantha), April Engstrom, Katie Andres (William), Andrew Engstrom, Neal Engstrom, and Shawn Engstrom. Also, great grandchildren Madeline, Bowen, and Reid Bucher. Bill is also survived by sister Jane Reed of Stoneboro, and sister-in-laws, Verna Engstrom of Stoneboro, and Laurie Engstrom of Utica. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers Richard Engstrom and Thomas Engstrom. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Black Funeral Home of Stoneboro, PA 99 Franklin Street where family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, Friday, November 1st. Additional visitation will be at Stoneboro Methodist Church 32 Lake Street from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday November 2nd with Pastor Janet Pratt officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where full Military Honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting wwwBlackFuneralHomes.net
