Samuel E. Sopher

Samuel E. Sopher, 65, of Millbrook, Jackson Center, passed away on June 14, 2018, at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Butler. Sam was born on May 19, 1953 in Grove City to the late Isaac Frances “Ike” Sopher and Mary Katherine Woods Sopher. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for Adobe Mining. Sam married his beloved wife, Nancy Joan Shearer Sopher, on October 19, 1991, she survives at home. Sam was a member of the Millbrook Presbyterian Church for many years. He was also a member of the Lake Lodge #434 F&AM. He loved the outdoors, going hunting, and loved to plant gardens. Sam especially loved his grandchildren. They were very special to him and he would spend as much time as he possibly could with them. In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by his daughters, Becky Quinn of Butler, Carol Quinn of Pittsburgh, and Tina Rivera of Butler, sister Sue Ellen Peters and husband Ed of Mercer, brothers Robert Sopher and wife Donna of Stoneboro and Thomas Sopher and wife Betty of Grove City, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where family and friends are welcome from 3-6 pm on Monday, June 18. A Masonic Service will take place in the funeral home at 6 pm following visitation by the Lake Lodge #434 F&AM, a funeral service will follow the Masonic Service with Pastor Evelyn Beebe, pastor of Millbrook Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will take place in Mt. Irwin Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Samuel’s name to the Millbrook Presbyterian Church, 1232 Millbrook Road, Jackson Center, PA 16133.
