Lorraine D. Urey

Lorraine D. Urey, 89 of Millcreek Township, Sandy Lake, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on April 17, 2018. Lorraine was born in Sandy Lake on July 9, 1928 to the late Leon Albert and Doris Louella James Dean. She was a 1946 graduate of Sandy Lake High School and was a homemaker to her loving husband and three daughters. Lorraine loved her flower gardens and being outdoors. She and her husband loved to camp and belonged to two camping clubs. She also loved to travel, having visited all 50 states as well as 35 different Countries and Provinces, but most of all she loved traveling to see her family. In her earlier years she loved sewing, having made countless school outfits and bridesmaid dresses. Lorraine was a member of the New Lebanon Community Church since 1941. During her years of membership, she taught many Sunday School Classes, sang in the choir, and helped with vacation bible school every summer she was able. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Robert C. Urey, whom she married on June 1, 1948. She is also survived by her three daughters, Sharyn L. Urey of Kingwood WV, Shirley A. Rogers and husband Timothy of Uniontown, PA, and Lori E. Lindrose and husband Larry of Mentor, OH, three grandchildren, Jodi Major of New Cumberland, PA. Ashley Esbin and husband Nick of Sylvania, OH, and Brandon Lindrose of Mentor, OH, three great granddaughters, Kendra Major, Brielle Major, and Noelle Esbin, and one sister Arlene Slater of Sandy Lake. In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn Clark. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where family and friends are welcome from 4 -7 pm on Thursday, April 19. Additional visitation will be from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am in the New Lebanon Community Church, 4166 Mercer Street, Sandy Lake, on Friday, April 20, with the Reverend Virginia Gadsby, officiating. Memorials may be made in Lorraine’s name to the New Lebanon Community Church, 4166 Mercer Street, Sandy Lake, PA 16145.
