Lettucia Why Obituary

Lettucia McClearn Why, otherwise known as Lettie Ann, Tish or Tishymom, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on February 5, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Evelyn (Hart) and Lloyd McClearn, her sister Glenna (McClearn) Seibert, and her brothers Thomas and Lewis McClearn. She is survived by her three daughters she shared with her ex-husband Neil Why; Kelly (Patrick Bull), Anna (Eugene Sayers), and Kaitlin Why; and her four grandchildren Christopher, Gavin, Evelyn and Kaleigh. She is also survived by her brother Rod (Linda) McClearn, many nieces and nephews, and her companion and best friend, Wil Ridington. Tish was born on September 13, 1946 in Mercer County and raised in Stoneboro, PA where she would spend every chance she could down the hill at Sandy Lake or running barefoot in the woods across from her house. At the lake she loved to water ski and swim to the bottom to find jewelry that vacationing people would lose when they jumped off the high dive. She also always had a connection to trees and was climbing or running or hiding in the forest when not at the lake. As a teen one of her proudest accomplishments was revitalizing the Sailorettes Club at Lakeview High School. She was the captain of the team and helped design the uniforms, select the team, and teach routines, all of which developed her leadership skills she would use later in life. While she loved growing up in a small town she headed for bigger places after high school ending up serendipitously at Penn State University, even though she initially thought she was applying to the University of Pennsylvania. She ended up choosing Penn State anyway and often would go back to the Happy Valley to visit for decades after her graduation. Her degree in marketing took her to big cities like Philadelphia and New York working in advertising before ultimately ending up at John Middleton, Inc in eastern PA where she spent over 25 years until her retirement. She dominated a mostly all-male field becoming a Board Officer and Marketing Director, smashing glass ceilings for the young women who came after her. While multiple health battles wore out Tish’s body, her beautiful soul will live forever in the lives she touched. She was always known to be kind to every human, seeking out those who felt alone to befriend them. People easily gravitated towards her and her gentle soul. Visitation will take place from 10 am - 11 am and a Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11 am on April 3, 2021 at The Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro. The Celebration of Life Service will be livestreamed on the Funeral Home facebook page.
