Denis Orin Elder

Denis Orin Elder, 77 of New Vernon Twp, Sandy Lake, passed away on August 2, 2018 at 2:02 am at Grove City Medical Center. Denis was born on April 19, 1941 in Franklin to the late Merle F. Elder Sr. and Frances Slater Elder. He was a graduate of Sandy Lake High School. Denis proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Denis was a mechanic and handyman having worked many places over the years. After work he would always come home to work more doing car repair, appliance repair, and fixing anything he could. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He loved to listen to music and watch old western television shows. He enjoyed visiting with his friends, joking and laughing with them. Most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Denis is survived by his two sons, Robert Elder and wife Shereen Elder of Meadville and Glenn Elder and companion Anne of Pittsburgh, grandchildren Riley, Ashlianna, Brittany, and Caitlyn Elder, great-grandchildren Jayde, Lily, Ezra, and Finley, sisters Dorothy Young and Elsie Shick, niece and caregiver Kathleen Elder, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Denis was preceded in death by sisters Alice Boozel, Kathryn Patton, Florence Tenney, and Susan Elder, infant brother Merle F. Elder Jr, twin brothers David and Thomas Elder, and brothers Richard, John, and George Elder. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where family and friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday, August 5. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 11 am on Monday, August 6 with the Reverend Glenn D. Walker, pastor of Donation Hill Bible Church, Cochranton, officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
